Sorry for being away so long. I moved to Texas to my cousin's house after spending 7 days in the hospital. I had a bout with depression and made the decision to relocate back to Texas where I have a support network of family and friends.
On July 20, 2006, I had weight loss surgery. I had gastric by-pass with Dr. Harry F. Meyers. My experience so far has been very positive for me. It is wonderful to get to know his extensive network of professionals willing and able to help with all areas of WLS's inpact on my life. I have seen a cardiologist, personal trainer, nutritionist, psychologist, and each one on Dr. Meyers' staff. Associatiation with him has gotten me in touch with a general practitioner and a dermatologist.
Surgery was fine. The first four days have been challenging. I have been really restless. I think it is hard to just sit around and wait to feel better. I have a drain port that is still working well. And, there is still a pouch of medicine going into my abdomen to deaden the site. The pouch gets to come out on Tuesday. And, I hope the drainage stops soon. The only discomfort I have is being sore and the feeling of having to belch and not being able to get it out! My water comsumption is going well. I am concentrating on sipping all through the day to make sure I stay hydrated.
I would recommend the surgery to anyone struggling with weight loss. I am sad it has taken our society to this point; modifying our bodies in order to control our eating habits. This is a great and powerful tool and I intend to use it to my best ability.
Updates to follow. OH, I started at 256 pounds. One day after surgery I weighed 268 pounds. I attribute the weight gane to swelling and fluid retention.
